Can the solar panels remain outside for extended periods of time and still work if there is a mix of weather, including rain on some days and bright sun on others?

I assume on a cloudy, rainy day, the solar panels won't accept much if any charge.  But if rain hits them, and then it later becomes sunny, I want to make sure the panels and battery will still work.
